Choose Image FilesConvert HEIC and HEIF Images to JPG
Use HEIC to JPG to convert a supported HEIC or HEIF image into JPG format directly in your browser.
The tool processes one supported image file at a time and creates a JPEG output from the image decoded by the browser-side HEIC/HEIF processing workflow.
The conversion changes the image format to JPEG. It does not intentionally resize, crop, flip, or otherwise alter the image dimensions as part of the format-conversion workflow.

How Browser-Side Conversion Works
HEIC and HEIF files require decoding before their image pixels can be encoded into JPEG format.
The current HEIC to JPG workflow uses a client-side HEIC/HEIF decoding implementation so supported files can be processed within the browser without requiring a server-side image-conversion service.
After decoding, the image is prepared for JPEG output using the browser-side image-processing workflow.
HEIC/HEIF decoding can require additional browser memory, particularly for large or high-resolution images.
What Happens When HEIC Is Converted to JPG
The selected HEIC or HEIF file is decoded into image data and then encoded into JPEG format.
The generated JPG uses the decoded image dimensions and is not intentionally resized as part of the conversion.
JPEG uses lossy encoding, so the conversion should not be described as lossless.
The resulting image appearance and file size can depend on the source image, decoder behavior, browser implementation, and JPEG encoding path.
Review the generated JPG when exact visual reproduction or file size is important.
JPEG and Transparent Image Areas
JPEG does not support an alpha transparency channel.
Where the decoded image contains transparent or semi-transparent areas, the current JPG output workflow uses a white background before JPEG encoding.
As a result, transparent decoded areas become composited against white in the generated JPG.
If transparency must be retained, JPEG is not an appropriate output format.
Original Decoded Pixel Dimensions
HEIC to JPG is designed to create the JPG using the natural pixel dimensions of the decoded source image.
The conversion does not intentionally resize, upscale, downscale, or crop the image.
For example, if the decoded source image is 4032 × 3024 pixels, the JPG output is created using those decoded dimensions.
Use Resize Image separately if changing width or height is your main requirement.
Metadata in the Generated JPG
HEIC and HEIF containers can contain information beyond the visible image pixels.
The current conversion workflow does not guarantee preservation of source metadata such as EXIF information, GPS data, capture dates, camera information, XMP data, or embedded color-profile metadata.
The image may appear in the expected visual orientation after decoding without the original orientation metadata being copied into the JPG.
Do not rely on the generated JPG to retain source metadata.
If metadata is important for your workflow, inspect the downloaded JPG before using it.
Will the JPG Be Smaller Than the HEIC?
No specific file-size reduction is guaranteed.
HEIC/HEIF and JPEG use different image encoding and compression methods.
The generated JPG may be smaller or larger than the source file depending on the source image, decoded dimensions, image content, and JPEG encoding result.
Converting to JPG should therefore be treated primarily as a format-compatibility conversion rather than a guaranteed compression operation.

Performance When Converting HEIC or HEIF to JPG
HEIC/HEIF conversion performance can depend on the source file size, decoded pixel dimensions, image content, decoder implementation, available browser memory, browser environment, and device resources. A compressed HEIC or HEIF file can require substantially more memory after it is decoded into image pixels. Large or high-resolution photos can therefore require additional memory and processing time during HEIC/HEIF decoding, image preparation, canvas rendering where applicable, and JPEG encoding. Performance may vary between browsers and devices.
Check Your JPG Before Submission
If you are converting an image for an application, examination, educational institution, employer, government portal, or another important submission, check the latest requirements from the relevant official source. Before submitting, verify that JPG or JPEG is an accepted format and check the actual pixel dimensions, file size, orientation, readability, background appearance, and any other applicable requirements. Converting a HEIC or HEIF image to JPG does not guarantee that the resulting image meets a third-party upload requirement. EditPDFImage.com cannot guarantee acceptance by a third-party portal or organization.
Frequently Asked Questions — HEIC to JPG
Common Questions About Converting HEIC and HEIF Images to JPG
What does the HEIC to JPG tool do?
HEIC to JPG converts a supported HEIC or HEIF image into JPG format directly in your browser. The tool processes one supported file at a time and creates a JPEG output from the decoded image.
Which image formats can I convert with HEIC to JPG?
The current HEIC to JPG tool accepts HEIC and HEIF image files supported by its upload validation and browser-side decoding workflow. The generated output uses JPG/JPEG format.
Does HEIC to JPG use WebAssembly?
Yes. The current HEIC to JPG workflow uses a client-side HEIC decoder library (heic2any), which utilizes a WebAssembly build of libheif to decode HEIC and HEIF image containers directly within your browser without uploading files to a server.
Can I choose the JPEG quality?
No. The current HEIC to JPG tool does not provide a user-selectable JPEG quality slider or custom quality setting. The JPG is created using the encoding behavior implemented by the current conversion pipeline.
Does converting HEIC to JPG change the image dimensions?
The conversion does not intentionally resize the image. The generated JPG uses the natural pixel dimensions of the image produced by the HEIC/HEIF decoding workflow.
Does HEIC to JPG preserve EXIF, GPS, or capture-date metadata?
The current HEIC to JPG workflow does not guarantee preservation of source metadata such as EXIF information, GPS data, capture dates, camera information, or other HEIC/HEIF metadata. Do not rely on the generated JPG to retain those source metadata fields.
What happens to transparent areas when HEIC or HEIF is converted to JPG?
JPEG does not support alpha transparency. Where the decoded source contains transparent or semi-transparent areas, the current JPG output workflow composites those areas against a white background before JPEG encoding.
Will the JPG always be smaller than the original HEIC or HEIF file?
No. The resulting JPG file size depends on the source image, decoded dimensions, image content, decoder behavior, and JPEG encoding result. The tool does not guarantee that the JPG will be smaller than the original HEIC or HEIF file.
Do I need an account to convert HEIC or HEIF to JPG?
No. You can use the HEIC to JPG tool without creating an account or signing in.
Are my HEIC or HEIF files uploaded to EditPDFImage.com during conversion?
HEIC to JPG conversion operations run locally within your browser. Files processed within your browser are not intentionally uploaded to EditPDFImage.com servers.
