Choose Image FilesMirror an Image in Your Browser
Use Flip Image to mirror a JPG, JPEG, PNG, or WebP image horizontally, vertically, or in both directions.
"Flip Horizontal (Mirror)" reverses the image from left to right, while "Flip Vertical (Invert)" reverses it from top to bottom.
Both flip options can be enabled together. The current workflow processes one image at a time and creates the transformed output using browser canvas processing.

How to Flip an Image
Select Image
Choose a supported JPG, JPEG, PNG, or WebP image from your device.
Choose Flip Direction
Enable "Flip Horizontal (Mirror)", "Flip Vertical (Invert)", or both options depending on the transformation you need.
Review the Preview
Check the live preview to confirm that the selected flip direction gives the image the appearance you want.
Process the Image
Click "Flip Image" to create the transformed output.
Download the Result
Click "Download File" when processing is complete to save the flipped image.
Horizontal, Vertical, or Both
Flip Image provides two independent transformation controls.
"Flip Horizontal (Mirror)" mirrors the image from left to right across its vertical axis.
"Flip Vertical (Invert)" mirrors the image from top to bottom across its horizontal axis.
You can enable either option individually or enable both at the same time.
When neither option is enabled, the image remains in its original decoded orientation in the workspace.
Flip Horizontally and Vertically Together
Horizontal and vertical flipping can be enabled simultaneously.
When both options are active, the processing transformation reverses both image axes around the canvas center.
For the resulting pixel arrangement, flipping both axes is equivalent to rotating the image by 180°.
Use the live preview to confirm the transformation before processing.
Flipping Without Resizing
The Flip Image operation is designed to preserve the source image's pixel dimensions.
A horizontal flip changes the left-to-right arrangement of the image without changing its width or height.
A vertical flip changes the top-to-bottom arrangement without changing its width or height.
Applying both flips also preserves the original width and height.
The flip operation does not intentionally crop, resize, upscale, or downscale the image.
Flip Image vs. Rotate Image
Flip Image mirrors the image across its horizontal or vertical axis.
Rotate Image changes the orientation of the complete image using fixed angular rotations.
A single horizontal or vertical flip is not the same transformation as a 90° rotation.
When both horizontal and vertical flips are applied together, the resulting pixel arrangement is equivalent to a 180° rotation.
Use Flip Image when you need a mirrored result. Use Rotate Image when changing the image angle is the main requirement.
Flip Image vs. Crop Image
Flip Image keeps the complete image area and mirrors its pixel arrangement.
Crop Image extracts a selected rectangular region and removes image areas outside that crop.
Use Flip Image when you want to mirror the full image without intentionally removing content.
Use Crop Image when you want to keep only a selected part of the image.
Format, Re-Encoding, Transparency, and Metadata
The selected image is decoded by the browser, transformed on an HTML5 canvas, and encoded into the generated output.
The current Flip Image tool does not provide a separate output-format selector. The processing workflow uses the supported MIME format of the selected source image when creating the output.
PNG and WebP formats can support transparent areas when the resulting browser encoding supports transparency.
Because the image is rendered and re-encoded through canvas processing, source metadata such as EXIF, GPS information, and ICC color-profile information should not be assumed to remain in the generated file.
For formats that use lossy encoding, re-encoding can affect file size or image data. The current Flip Image tool does not provide a custom encoding-quality control.
Review the downloaded image when metadata, transparency, color behavior, file size, or exact visual reproduction is important.

Performance When Flipping Images
Flip performance can depend on the source image file size, pixel dimensions, format, available browser memory, browser implementation, and device resources. Large or high-resolution images can require additional memory while the browser decodes the source image, displays the preview, creates the output canvas, applies the transformation, and encodes the generated image. The flip operation preserves the original pixel dimensions, but high-resolution source images can still require substantial browser memory during processing. Performance may vary between devices and browsers when working with very large images.
Check Your Flipped Image Before Submission
If you are flipping an image for an application, examination, educational institution, employer, government portal, or another important submission, check the latest requirements from the relevant official source. Before submitting, verify the image orientation, format, pixel dimensions, file size, readability, and any other applicable requirements. Frequently Asked Questions — Flip Image
Common Questions About Flipping Images
What does the Flip Image tool do?
Flip Image lets you mirror a JPG, JPEG, PNG, or WebP image horizontally, vertically, or in both directions. The transformation keeps the complete image area and preserves its original pixel dimensions.
Which image formats can I flip?
The current Flip Image tool supports JPG, JPEG, PNG, and WebP images. The workspace processes one supported image at a time.
What is the difference between horizontal and vertical flipping?
"Flip Horizontal (Mirror)" reverses the image from left to right, while "Flip Vertical (Invert)" reverses it from top to bottom. Each option mirrors the complete image across a different axis.
Can I flip an image horizontally and vertically at the same time?
Yes. The horizontal and vertical flip controls are independent, so both can be enabled for the same processing operation. Applying both transformations produces a pixel arrangement equivalent to rotating the image by 180°.
Does flipping an image change its dimensions?
No intentional resizing is performed during the flip operation. The output canvas uses the source image's natural width and height, so horizontal, vertical, and combined flips preserve the original pixel dimensions.
What is the difference between Flip Image and Rotate Image?
Flip Image mirrors the image across its horizontal or vertical axis. Rotate Image changes the orientation of the image using angular rotation. Applying both horizontal and vertical flips together produces a result equivalent to a 180° rotation, but a single-axis flip is a different transformation.
Does Flip Image use WebAssembly?
No. The current Flip Image processing workflow uses browser-native image loading, HTML5 Canvas, and client-side JavaScript. It does not use WebAssembly for the flip operation.
Does flipping preserve EXIF or other image metadata?
The image is rendered and re-encoded through browser canvas processing, so source metadata such as EXIF, GPS information, and ICC color-profile data should not be assumed to remain in the generated output. Review the generated file if metadata or color-profile information is important.
Do I need an account to flip images?
No. You can use the Flip Image tool without creating an account or signing in.
Are my images uploaded to EditPDFImage.com while I flip them?
Image flipping operations run locally within your browser. Files processed within your browser are not intentionally uploaded to EditPDFImage.com servers.
